Engineering Technician

Shockcraft is part of an engineering company (Engen), based outside Alexandra.  We design, build and deliver innovative products and services to power generation, scientific research, material handling and cash handling; locally, throughout New Zealand and sometimes worldwide.  Shockcraft & Engen have an opening for an Engineering Technician who can operate in both sides of the business, providing engineering workshop capability and support to Shockcraft as well as other projects.

Main duties will be light engineering, including machining (lathe, mill) and welding, stores and general duties, service & repair of mountain bike forks and rear shocks, but will range from precision engineering machining and repair to medium weight fabrication of tooling, jigs, machinery and client projects.

We are looking for the right person and can tailor this role and training (within reason) to suit the strengths of the individual.

Job Description

-  Machining (lathe and mill) of tools, suspension parts, spacers, axles, pistons etc to supplied drawings
-  Fabrication of frames, jigs, machinery parts and client projects (mostly plain carbon steel) to supplied drawings
-  Assembly, disassembly, service and repair of machinery and machine tools, with and without instructions
-  Service of suspension forks and shocks (training provided)
-  Testing of mountain bike parts
-  Design and drawings for new parts and tools
-  Processing, packing and shipment of orders
-  General errands

Applicant must be:

-  A natural and talented mechanic
-  An active troubleshooter & motivated learner
-  Able to weld (MIG) and machine (lathe, mill) or have the desire and ability to learn
-  Willing to gain relevant engineering qualifications
-  Physically fit and active
-  An active mountainbike rider
-  Computer literate
-  Have very high standards of care and accuracy
-  A clear and open communicator
-  Safety conscious, able to follow written instructions and work independently
-  Able to drive manual vehicles and have a valid New Zealand driver's licence

Additional desirable skills: heavy fabrication, CNC machinery operation, CAD (2D or 3D) skills.

Potential qualifications to have or work towards:

-  Trade certificates.
-  National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering - Level 4
-  National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical) - Level 7

Hours & Location of Work

Work will be full-time (5 days, 30-40 hours per week), except for Christmas & New Year shutdown.

Shockcraft and Engen are located 10 km (biking distance) outside Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand.
